Finally, flatpaks are officially supported by Linux Mint, flatpak package is part of Mint distro and preinstalled. PS: flatpaks DO NOT pollute the system flatpaks are installed separately, without changing or replacing any program or library of the distro and flatpaks are run in sandboxes. The "gimp-plugin-registry" package is done for Gimp 2.6, most of the plugins it contains will not function on Gimp 2.10.x. The other flatpak plugins are not in the repos. Stable revision is now (on 22nd of August 2021) 2.9.8, while the version in the repos, 2.4.5, is VERY OUTDATED. G'MIC is in constant change (new functions and bug corrections). Gimp flatpak is now the official way to release recent versions to Linux (except your distro delivers a fresh package, which is not the case with Mint 20.2 and Ubuntu focal). Gimp in its latest revision 2.10.24 is not in the repos (there is 2.10.18 in Mint 20.2 between 2.10.18 and 2.10.24 there are some new functions and lots of bugs corrections). There is no need for a flatpak when an app is already in the repos - all you're doing is polluting the system.

It is very easy to install plugins for Gimp in flatpak version. You can further install any plugin or script or addon in this directory (for example, plugins in '/home /user/.gimp/plug-ins') After its 1st launch you will find an hidden directory '.gimp' in your home. Then launch Gimp, and in its preferences / files add the paths of your uncompressed scripts. Uncompress the files, and copy them anywhere you want in your '/home/ user' directory (where user is your username).
